Youth Programs

Rockwall Children’s Playhouse (RCP) at Rockwall Community Playhouse (RCP)

RCP at RCP After School Academy believes the future of community theater depends on identifying, nurturing and developing the talents of children.  No matter what future endeavors children pursue, experience onstage prepares them for confident communication before a wide range of audiences. This tuition based program has evolved to being offered twice a year.

This comedy is a hilarious portrayal of a coed baseball team confronting the worst slump of the season--without the coach. A laughable production in six innings, this is a delightfully perceptive play about young America's favorite pastime--Little League. Set in the visitor's dugout, with monologues on the pitcher's mound and at home plate. The Angels brass out a real game against an imaginary team of powerhouse hitters. The result is frantic, funny and ofter touching, as the team discovers they have a lot to learn about themselves and the true spirit of baseball. The play offers challenges in mine, cheerleading and accurate, realistic characterization.

ROALD DAHL'S JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH JR ROALD DAHL'S JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH JR

TUITION BASED - $150
Book by Timothy Allen McDonald
Music & Lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul
Based on the book, "James and the Giant Peach" by Roald Dahl

Directed by Darlene Singleton

Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach JR. is a brand new take on this "masterpeach" of a tale.  Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.

The possibilities for creative costuming and puppetry abound, and young actors will love playing the outlandish and larger-than-life human and insect characters.

RCP TEEN THEATER
RCP’s Teen Theater program gives the talented students of the Rockwall area an opportunity to rehearse and perform their own production each summer.  This program focuses on performance opportunities for young people, highlighting their unique style and energy, while preparing them for later community theater participation.  Many of our teens have gone on to perform in larger shows and bigger venues.  We regularly hear from past participants how their involvement in RCP shaped their performance skills and built lasting memories. Each year, RCP awards a scholarship to graduating seniors to further their education in the fine arts in college.

All RCP at RCP programs are tuition based and cost $150 per child.  Limited scholarships based on need are available.
