Youth Programs

Rockwall Children’s Playhouse (RCP) at Rockwall Community Playhouse (RCP)

RCP at RCP After School Academy believes the future of community theater depends on identifying, nurturing and developing the talents of children.  No matter what future endeavors children pursue, experience onstage prepares them for confident communication before a wide range of audiences. This tuition based program has evolved to being offered twice a year.

They find it is now a home for aged ladies - and what ladies! Grannie Carlson loves to scoot in her wheelchair, Mrs. Hildebrand has a caustic tongue, Mrs. Katts has eyesight that leaves something to be desired. The lessons behind these expressions are playfully illustrated through a series of the well-known stories, and brought to life by a variety of human and animal characters. These classic fables, such as The Boy Who Cried Wolf and The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg, provide a fresh, warm, and fun learning experience.

Darcy struggles with issues that most teenagers deal with on a day-to-day basis. What makes her unique, however, is that she experiences the events in her life as short movies -- or "daydreams," as her teacher calls them. Often these movies grow out of her desire to fit in and be accepted. But during a class trip to a museum -- complete with a romance, an evil nemesis, and a nerd fashion show -- Darcy is able to find her way with the help of both her intelligence and her unwillingness to change who she is just to fit in.
AUDITIONS/REGISTRATION: Registration on Tuesday, Feb 7th at 4:30pm
PERFORMANCES:Saturday, April 22 & Sunday, April 23

RCP’s Teen Theater program gives the talented students of the Rockwall area an opportunity to rehearse and perform their own production each summer.  This program focuses on performance opportunities for young people, highlighting their unique style and energy, while preparing them for later community theater participation.  Many of our teens have gone on to perform in larger shows and bigger venues.  We regularly hear from past participants how their involvement in RCP shaped their performance skills and built lasting memories. Each year, RCP awards a scholarship to graduating seniors to further their education in the fine arts in college.

All RCP at RCP programs are tuition based and cost $150 per child.  Limited scholarships based on need are available.
